We've Always Lived There
They say it's there still
We hear its faint whisper
And spend our years
In solemn search
Collecting secrets
As if we could use them
To find our way back
Through the hidden valleys
And unmarked paths
Adding day by day
To our hopeful burden
Until we're stopped
By that silent shore
And then we swim
Bodies straining
Towards that home
We hope to see
Cresting the hem
Of the distant horizon
But...
We've always lived there
Just on the other side
Of this feeling
Our memories of that place
Cling to us as laughter
Fills our ears with familiar song
Its music
Pulls us like the ebbing tide
But we cannot cast off
These teeming years
